The Vitality Index, which provides a comprehensive assessment of the health of UK cities and towns, ranked Scotland’s capital as the UK city with the best prospects for economic growth in the upcoming year.

Due to significant and increasing demand for residential and commercial property in the city, alongside a robust forecasted job growth, Edinburgh dominated the leader board as the one and only Scottish location in the top 10.

Edinburgh, which moved from tenth to fifth place on the Vitality Index in 2017 and 2018, knocked Cambridge off the top spot for the first time in three years. The city was seen to have one of the strongest rates of job growth over the next five years of the 66 locations in the report.

The sub-indices of the report show that Edinburgh was ranked first for ‘growing affluence’, joint fourth for ‘most productive’, and fifth for ‘most highly educated’.

Scotland’s third largest city, Aberdeen, also managed to place joint fourth for ‘most productive’ with Edinburgh, as well as sixth place for ‘most entrepreneurial’.

Additionally, Glasgow appeared once on the board in seventh place for ‘growing affluence’.
